Malawi Orphans & Community Project cost breakdown

£850- Project Contribution
Short term costs:

• Food
• Accommodation, beds, pillows, lighting
• All on the ground transport
• Project Materials for all project activities such as cement, sand, materials for the community centre and school projects
• Local skilled staff wages for all project work
• Local wages for lady to provide cooking, cleaning
• Local wages for trained night-watchmen
• Communications- mobile phones and internet costs

Medium term support:

• Funds for the school scholarship fund. £300 of each volunteer's contribution will be put towards supporting a young Malawian completely through Secondary School.

Long term commitment:

• Donation to the Joshua Orphan Care Trust for ongoing work such as the secondary school development and staff costs.

£100 Weekend activities and in-country orientation in Africa

• In-country orientation and training days
• Food on weekends off
• Accommodation on weekends off
• Transport to weekend location
• Weekend off in Blantyre to experience some town life
• Weekend 4x4 safari to one of Malawi’s stunning game reserves.

£835 - Quest Overseas
To you:

• Pre-departure training course and preparation
• Pre-departure Info-CD expedition manual
• Project Leader wages, flights and on the ground expenses
• Project Leader training
• Safety equipment and first aid kit, emergency contingency planning, continual risk assessments.
• Repatriation assistance and emergency back-up funds
• Quest UK staff costs – pre-departure support and 24 hour back-up from the UK, including 24 hour communication availability with leaders
• Quest expedition doctor – 24-hour medical advice and support when you are overseas.
• Negotiating with flight companies and insurers to provide the best deal for you

To the project:

• Year round planning and development of project- including assessing aims and objectives for the project in the short, medium and long term
• Recces by Africa Manager to assess validity of project aims, maintain quality of project site and continually check conditions for volunteers

To Quest:

• Selection costs associated with volunteers (Interview/Open Evening, support when signing up).
• Selection costs associated with Project Leaders
• Marketing and administration costs
• Office rental and costs
