Chile Conservation Project

JOURNEY: Chilean Lake District
PURPOSE: Conservation & Sustainable Development
DURATION: 3 - 5 weeks, Departing 28th March, 7th November 2008, 27th March, 6th November 2009
Conserve the flora and fauna of ancient monkey puzzle forests in the beautiful Lake District region of Chile.
  • Volunteer and live in the stunning Chilean Lake District - a land of volcanos, pristine lakes, thermal springs, and virgin forests.
  • Help to save the forest and its endangered wildlife alongside top researchers and local farmers.
  • Spend your weekends exploring the local area - trekking, relaxing in hot springs, visiting local villages.

Your help is needed to conserve the ancient monkey-puzzle forests and its wildlife. You will be working as part of a team in breath-taking surroundings alongside local farmers and researchers from top scientific institutions, helping to save the forest and its endangered wildlife.

A land of volcanoes, white-water rapids, thermal springs and virgin forests, and home to a huge diversity of animals and plant species, the Chilean Lake District will dazzle you with its beauty. As a volunteer you will have a fantastic opportunity to actively take part in biodiversity research. Work is varied, from surveying mountain lions to construction of a tree nursery, with everything you do having a positive impact to the conservation of a unique habitat.

Also included in this project are weekend treks through the pristine forests and volcanoes to explore the spectacular landscape further as well as a visit to nearby Pucon and the city of Temuco, the cultural centre of the Mapuche Indians the original inhabitants of the area.

COST: 5 week Project: £950 + £800 Project donation = £1750 (including all activities, food, accommodation, in-country transport, training and £800 donation to project,excluding flights and insurance). see full cost breakdown
