CAREER BREAK VOLUNTEERING IN KENYA, WATERRELIEF PROJECT

Kenya WaterRelief Project

JOURNEY: Kenya
PURPOSE: Community Development & Environment
DURATION: 4-6 weeks departing 30th Mar '08, 3rd Aug '08, 9th Jan '09, 6th Mar '09, 3rd Aug '09
Volunteers are needed to work alongside local communities, constructing small-scale sand dams and water tanks to aid this drought stricken region.
In Kenya rising population and the grip of the latest vicious drought has left many communities facing a desperate water shortage. Over 42 per cent of the population in sub-saharan Africa has no access to safe water and children often pay the highest price.

Every day, a large number of children are missing school because of diseases like diarrhoea or simply because they have to spend hours walking to collect the daily supply of water needed to support their families. This is where Quest volunteers can provide significant support and funds to provide safe water sources in the form of Sand Dams.

This project not only gives you great interaction with the local Akamba people as you work together but also offers the opportunity to work with children in the local schools. It is an excellent opportunity to get experience in overseas development work.

We also include a long weekend off in Nairobi and a 4x4 safari through one of Kenya's world famous Game Parks.

See video of this project here at the website of our project partner Excellent Development.
