Lilongwe currently has a small zoo facility, but due to a lack of resources the animals are neither well fed nor cared for and educational value is very limited. It is only for a small number of well wishers that the animals remain fed. Enclosures remain dirty, bare and in a state of disrepair. A new and modern approach to animal welfare and wildlife education is now needed in Malawi and you can help make this a reality.
Working together with the Malawi Wildlife Centre, this project aims to develop a self-sustaining, ‘People and Wildlife’ wild animal rescue and education centre. This will be used to promote an understanding of animal welfare, wildlife conservation, environmental protection and humanitarian issues and actively engages in wildlife release and conservation programmes. It will also provide a sanctuary home for the animals from the zoo when it closes.
