SABBATICAL: VOLUNTEER AS A PROJECT MANAGER FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY IN KENYA

Project Manager - Renewable Energy Association of Swaziland

JOURNEY:

Swaziland

PURPOSE: Promoting renewable energy
DURATION: 4 weeks - 4 months
Promote renewable energy in Swaziland through education and project managing the installation of pumps.

The smallest country in the southern hemisphere, Swaziland is a friendly, land-locked kingdom bordered by South Africa and Mozambique. Eighty percent of Swaziland's one million people live in rural areas and are heavily dependent on wood as a source of energy; school children are also often required to bring wood to school for use in the kitchen and for heating. The stripping of forests for firewood has accelerated desertification, and across the country the practice has caused soil erosion and silted up precious water sources.

The Renewable Energy Association of Swaziland (REASWA) aims to promote the cost-effective use of renewable energy in Swaziland in an environmentally sustainable and socially acceptable manner. One of their key objectives is to raise public awareness on the correct and appropriate uses of renewable energy.

This placement involves delivering renewable energy message in schools as well  other work on roundabout pumps, project management and delivery. There will be office-based work as well as site visits.

Skills required: Marketing/communication, fundraising or project management abilities. IT skills.
